ACADEMIC PROOFREADING
Following the principles of copy editing - the 5Cs - comprehensible, correct, concise, clear and consistent, The Little Academy strives to ensure that your paper's marker is not distracted from your hard work by language errors.
In addition to this, we will also (if you wish) add comments to guide your argument or highlight areas of, for example, repetition or potential contradictions within your findings that require further explanation.
We do not passively 'read' your work - it is a process of methodical in-depth analysis.
If you would like to discuss your paper, we offer a free consultation. Also, we're happy to proofread a page of your work so you can see exactly what is involved in the process of academic editing.

ENGLISH LITERATURE & LANGUAGE ONE-TO-ONE TUTORING
- NAT5 & HIGHER ENGLISH - Scotland
- GCSE & A LEVEL ENGLISH - England, Wales & Northern Ireland
Classes are recommended to occur weekly for 30-45 minutes until the pre-exam period, where 60 minute sessions are useful to practise full exam papers and gain comprehensive feedback.
Sessions look deeply into each area of the curriculum, providing students with a tailored one-to-one programme ensuring best possible outcomes. Sessions are also based around official marking instructions to guide students efficiently and build confidence.
One-to-one sessions are invaluable for the individual needs of students over the course of an academic year. These classes also have in-built flexibility to work around homework tasks, study skills, exam prep and how to maintain good well-being throughout the process, which can be quite overwhelming at times.

CURRENT PROJECTS
A brief snapshot of current intrigues in the field of teaching & learning.

SPRING/SUMMER 2024
Current Projects
Preparing NAT5 and Higher English students in Scotland for their final exams, coming up in early May.
So much talent - a real joy for me.
This year we have explored Carol Ann Duffy, Norman MacCaig and Liz Lochhead's wonderful poetry; the prose of Arthur Miller, Master Shakespeare among many more fine writers, and also - RUAE, testing the technical acumen of 16-18 year olds through examining what the examiners are looking for and ... practise, practise and a little extra practise.

SUMMER 2024
Dissertation Season
Last year's MSc and MA Dissertations were some of the most interesting I've ever read - well done to all those who were awarded their postgrad qualification.
As a postgrad myself, I understand the pain and tears it takes to finally get there!
Then of course, the joy.
Very happy to help you reach your next academic goal.

Literary Trickery: What I do
STUDY SKILLS
Adhering to the 5Cs of Copy Editing is key to producing work that university lecturers love to grade - get on their right side!
It is vital to communicate effectively and the very basics of this skill remained unmet in 2020, according to research conducted by Harvard Business School.
EXAM PREP
It is not only essential to know your texts, whether poetry, class novel, Shakespeare play, but to concisely demonstrate your knowledge under exam conditions. This means, in a nutshell, being able to discuss rather complicated and interconnected themes in as few words as possible - you don't have long.
The trick is - learn a main body paragraph formula, and stick to it.
ESSAYS, DISSERTATIONS & THESES
You are in a unique position to show your knowledge and demonstrate your passion - use your time carefully and don't miss out on points due to a lack of understanding of the precise requirements of your school, college or university.
Read through the guidelines you have been provided with an active inquiring mind - academic study is a pursuit, a journey and a hugely rewarding experience.
